Vista took five years in the making with major delays. Everyone had high expectations for Microsoft. What do you expect when Windows is on over 90% of computers around the world. Microsoft has got a tough job ahead of them developing an operating system to be compatible with a huge number of hardware, programs, and peripherals. People expect this stuff to just work and because of this Microsoft cannot be innovative or programs will break and will not work.
I think that was one of the major reason for the Vista delays was that it had to remain compatible with everything. When it was finally released there were bugs and some compatibility issue, it still wasn’t ready for prime time. Vista was seen as a poor operating system. Now a year later after initial release Vista is starting to become very reliable and stable and with Service Pack 1 coming in the next few months the future is starting to bright for Microsoft and Vista.
Anticipation for the the new Mac operating system has been huge, thanks to the six month delay. Leopard is the successor to the Tiger operating system. Apple’s new operating system, Leopard is now available to consumers. Leopard has been out for about a month now and the transition between the previous operating system to the new one has been very good, although with a few minor bugs. It was still better received than Vista. Apples got it easier though, because they have control over what hardware can run with their operating system they can be sure everything will work.
If you chose to have the latest and greatest than you should expect to have some issues and expect a lot of updates and patches. Operating systems are like home cooked stew it just gets better the longer you cook it.
